Student exchange programmes

An exchange student is a student from a university abroad, coming to study at University of Gothenburg for a maximum of one academic year provided that a formal agreement of student exchange is signed between the two institutions.

The Sahlgrenska Academy participates in a number of cooperative agreements with institutes of higher education in different parts of the world. These agreements allow for student exchange in both directions.

Exchange students can be admitted to courses, final degree projects or clinical placements at the Sahlgrenska Academy provided that a formal exchange agreement between the student's home institution and the Academy has been agreed upon.

As an exchange student you apply to your home institution which makes the selection of outgoing students. Agreements for exchange can be signed on different levels within the university.
The University of Gothenburg has got approximately 800 partner universities around the world. Some are open to students within any faculty/field of studies. Some are reserved for a specific faculty and yet some are assigned for students at a specific programme of studies for example dentistry.

Each undergraduate programme at the Sahlgrenska Academy has signed agreements reserved for their students. You find all available agreements in our database. Should we not have an agreement with your home university, you must contact the international coordinator at your programme or faculty and they will investigate the possibility to start a student exchange. The process of initiating new agreements usually takes up to one year.
