Here you will find information about the handling of chemicals and how chemical waste should be dealt with. These rules concern Medicinaregatan; in the hospital other rules apply.
The cost for the destruction of chemical waste is paid centrally at the University of Gothenburg (GU) and is thus not a direct cost for the individual research group. GU and Chalmers together have an agreement with Gryaab concerning which chemicals can be discarded by being poured down the drains.
The basic principle is as follows:
"All solutions of chemicals which chemically differ from normal household waste must be gathered in containers and sent for destruction as hazardous waste. This means that only solutions which in the short term and long term are unequivocally completely harmless to people, drainage traps, the different processes in the sewage treatment works, the river Göta Älv etc. may be added to the outlet."

Antibiotic waste
How should chemical waste be packed, and where can I leave it? Such questions will all be answered in the instruction manual for the handling of chemical and hazardous waste. The manual was written for the Physiology building, but the rules are the same for all laboratories at Medicinaregatan. However, information concerning contact persons and rooms for temporary storage of hazardous waste is different. At Medicinaregatan, there are four rooms:
Medicinaregatan 11, Physiology basement, right opposite the elevator (contact person: Rita Grander 786 33 29)
Medicinaregatan 9, basement, rooms nos. 1310 c & d (contact person: Therese Carlsson 786 33 26)
Medicinaregatan 1G, room no. 1581 (contact person: Bernt Johansson 786 35 45 or 0733-325177)
Medicinaregatan 15A, EBM, room no. 2076 (contact persons: Gabriella Wendt 786 58 65 and Lisbeth Björndal 786 56 56)
